NatBod Bodysport’s Judging System and Criteria are based on the traditions of old school bodybuilding, but with a modern twist. They are applicable to both Athletic Bodysculpting and Classical Bodybuilding categories, ensuring consistency and transparency across all divisions. They are also comprehensive and detailed, covering every aspect of your physique and presentation, giving you a clear picture of what the judges are looking for and how you can impress them.

Let’s take a closer look at how NatBod Bodysport’s Judging System and Criteria work.

Criteria

The NatBod Bodysport judging criteria are the same for both Athletic Bodysculpting and Classical Bodybuilding. They are divided into four main categories: Muscularity, Condition, Proportion, and Presentation. Each category has three subcategories that define the specific attributes that the judges will evaluate. Here is a breakdown of each category and subcategory:

Muscularity

Muscularity refers to the overall size, fullness, density, and quality of your muscles. It is a measure of how well-developed and impressive your physique is. The judges will assess your muscularity based on these three subcategories:

  • Overall Size: This is the overall muscular and structural size of your physique. It reflects how much muscle mass you have built relative to your height and bone structure. The judges will look for a balanced and proportional development of all muscle groups, without any gaps or weaknesses.
  • Muscular Fullness: This is the fullness and roundness of your muscles. It reflects how well-hydrated and pumped your muscles are on stage. The judges will look for a smooth and even distribution of muscle volume, without any flatness or deflation.
  • Muscular Density: This is the density and thickness of your muscles. It reflects how solid and compact your muscles are under the skin. The judges will look for a hard and dense appearance of muscle tissue, without any softness or flabbiness.

Condition

Condition refers to the level of leanness, definition, and detail of your muscles. It is a measure of how well-prepared and conditioned your physique is for competition. The judges will assess your condition based on these three subcategories:

  • Separation: This is the separation between each muscle group. It reflects how well-defined and distinct your muscles are from each other. The judges will look for a clear and visible delineation of muscle boundaries, without any blurring or overlapping.
  • Striations: This is the fine lines and details within each muscle group. It reflects how well-developed and refined your muscle fibers are. The judges will look for a crisp and sharp display of muscle striations, without any smoothness or fuzziness.
  • Vascularity: This is the visible appearance of veins on your muscles. It reflects how low your body fat percentage is and how well-circulated your blood flow is. The judges will look for a prominent and aesthetic display of vascularity.

Proportion

Proportion refers to the balance, symmetry, and overall shape of your physique. It is a measure of how well-harmonized and pleasing your physique is to the eye. The judges will assess your proportion based on these three subcategories:

  • Balance: This is the balanced and equal development of all muscle groups. It reflects how well-matched and congruent your muscles are in size, shape, and density. The judges will look for a balanced physique that does not favor any particular body part over another, without any overdevelopment or underdevelopment.
  • Symmetry: This is the symmetry between left and right sides, as well as upper and lower halves of your physique. It reflects how well-aligned and mirrored your muscles are in proportion, shape, density, condition, etc. The judges will look for a symmetrical physique that does not show any noticeable discrepancies or imbalances between sides or halves.
  • Overall Shape: This is the overall shape and flow of your physique. It reflects how well-contoured and aesthetically pleasing your physique is as a whole. The judges will look for a well-shaped physique that follows a natural and attractive curve, without any awkward or unnatural angles or lines.

Presentation

Presentation refers to the execution of poses, the stamina to hold them, and the tan and stage presence of the competitor. It is a measure of how well-displayed and confident your physique is on stage. The judges will assess your presentation based on these three subcategories:

  • Posing: This is the execution of poses and transitions. It reflects how well-practiced and skilled you are in displaying your physique to its best advantage. The judges will look for a smooth and fluid posing routine that showcases your strengths and hides your weaknesses, without any hesitation or mistakes.
  • Stamina: This is the ability to hold poses comfortably and confidently. It reflects how well-conditioned and prepared you are for the stage. The judges will look for a strong and stable posing performance that does not show any signs of fatigue or discomfort, without any shaking or sweating.
  • Tan & Stage Presence: This is the dark yet natural looking tan with appropriate glaze, as well as the confident stage presence and positive energy of the competitor. It reflects how well-polished and professional you are on stage. The judges will look for a flawless and natural tan that enhances your muscle definition and complexion, without any streaks or blotches, as well as a confident and charismatic stage presence that engages the audience and judges, without any arrogance or nervousness.

Judging System

NatBod Bodysport takes a very comprehensive approach to judging with each Mandatory Pose, each Criteria, and each Pose Off pose scored individually Out of 10 (10 pts for 1st, 9 for 2nd, 8 for 3rd etc). That means that everything is equally accounted for leading to the fairest results.

The judging system consists of three rounds: Round 1 – Mandatory Poses, Round 2 – Quarter Turns, and Round 3 – Pose Off. Here is how each round works:

Round 1 – Mandatory Poses

Competitors will complete the Mandatory Poses for their category as they are called by the head judge. Each Mandatory Pose is scored individually Out of 10 based on the four criteria categories (Muscularity, Condition, Proportion, Presentation). The scores for each pose are then added up to get the total score for Round 1.

The Mandatory Poses are different for Athletic Bodysculpting and Classical Bodybuilding categories. They are as follows:

  • Athletic Bodysculpting: Front Double Bicep, Side Oblique, Back Double Bicep, Abs & Thighs
  • Classical Bodybuilding: Front Double Biceps, Front Lat Spread, Side Chest, Side Triceps, Back Double Biceps, Back Lat Spread, Abs & Thighs, Most Muscular

Round 2 – Quarter Turns

Competitors will complete four semi-relaxed Quarter Turns as called by the head judge. Each Criteria category (Muscularity, Condition, Proportion) is scored individually Out of 10 based on the overall impression of the competitor’s physique from each angle. The scores for each criteria are then added up to get the total score for Round 2.

The Quarter Turns are different for Athletic Bodysculpting and Classical Bodybuilding categories. They are as follows:

  • Athletic Bodysculpting: One hand on waist/hip when completing quarter turns
  • Classical Bodybuilding: Both hands by sides when completing quarter turns

Round 3 – Pose Off

Competitors will complete one Front Pose, one Side Pose, and one Rear Pose of their choice as called by the head judge. Each Pose is scored individually Out of 10 based on the four criteria categories (Muscularity, Condition, Proportion, Presentation). The scores for each pose are then added up to get the total score for Round 3.

The competitors can choose any unique and creative poses that best suit their physique and personality.
